we will be exploring the following topics:
Field Practice / Photo Essay
This lecture is a field meeting. We will test our knowledge and learn new skills by doing it instead of listening and thinking about photography in the classroom.
Combining Light
We will learn about all characteristics of light that are important for photography. We will practice with direction, strength, softness and fall-off to combine our artificial light with natural ambient light and produce a pleasing and natural looking result.
Photography Composition
After a quick overview of basic compositions, like rule of thirds and golden ration, we will dive deeper and start to combine with posing principles until we reach the final truth of visual design - gestalt or dynamic symmetry.
Working With a Model
With a help of volunteers or even models, we will learn how to direct and pose our subjects.
What you need
to attend this in-person photography class:
Classroom Topics
It is not strictly necessary, but I do recommend you prepare for this lecture by working through Module I topics in the Photography 201 classroom.
Camera
We will be working with cameras, so you need one for this lecture. Phone will not be enough. The Camera can be a DSLR or mirrorless, but it is recommended for it to have a hot shoe. If you don't have it, you can also rent it for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let him us know beforehand.
Light Source
We will be working with lights so it is recommended to have at least one of the following: flash, strobe or a constant light. It is also recommended to have a remote trigger for your light source. If you are missing something you can also rent it for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let us know beforehand.
Filters
It is not mandatory, but we will be working with filters, so if you have any, bring them with you. Ideally CPL and different strengths of ND filters, but if you are missing something we will still learn how to do long exposures without any filters and/or you can rent for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let us know beforehand.
Mounting
Again it is not mandatory, but if you have a tripod or a clamp, bring it with you. If you are missing something you can also rent it for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let us know beforehand.
