On this lecture
we will be exploring the following topics:
Field Practice / Photo Essay
This lecture is a field meeting. We will test our knowledge and learn new skills by doing it instead of listening and thinking about photography in the classroom.
Freezing Movement
The first challenge for us will be to capture fleeting moments in time. Things that happen faster than our eyes can see are not too fast for our cameras to capture and there is a whole new world hidden behind that time curtain.
Controlling the Ambient Light
Often we need to control the light we are given by nature. We will learn about different kinds of filters and then master their use. We will also solve real challenges photographers face and learn many useful creative solutions we can apply.
Passage of Time
When we can control the ambient light, another genre opens to us - long exposure photography. We will learn how to represent the passage of time and creative solutions for times when we are not able to sufficiently control the light.
What you need
to attend this in-person photography class:
Classroom Topics
It is not strictly necessary, but I do recommend you prepare for this lecture by working through Module II topics in the Photography 201 classroom.
Camera
We will be working with cameras, so you need one for this lecture. Phone will not be enough. The Camera can be a DSLR or mirrorless, but it is recommended for it to have a hot shoe. If you don't have it, you can also rent it for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let him us know beforehand.
Filters
It is not mandatory, but we will be working with filters, so if you have any, bring them with you. Ideally CPL and different strengths of ND filters, but if you are missing something we will still learn how to do long exposures without any filters and/or you can rent for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let us know beforehand.
Mounting
Again it is not mandatory, but if you have a tripod or a clamp, bring it with you. If you are missing something you can also rent it for the duration of the lecture from the instructor. Just let us know beforehand.
